Craving Community

From Screen to Scene: Craving connection in a culture that programmed us to party.

What is Craving Community?

Across generations, we’ve been told that partying is the key to connection. From teen comedies to beer commercials, media has trained us to equate fun with being altered—and belonging with being buzzed. We didn’t invent that script. We absorbed it. We performed it. And for a while, it worked.

Until it didn’t.

Craving Community is a feature documentary that explores how media and culture normalized the party lifestyle—and how it often leaves people more disconnected than ever. But this isn’t a story about rock bottom. It’s about what happens next: the quiet realization that there’s another way to belong.

Through personal stories, cultural critique, and immersive scenes from sober and sober-curious spaces, the film invites viewers to rethink what connection really means. This isn’t about perfection. It’s about presence—and the communities we can build when we stop trying to escape ourselves and start showing up for each other.

We’re looking for real voices to help shape Craving Community—and that might mean you.

Maybe you’ve struggled with addiction.
Maybe you’ve watched someone you love go through it.
Maybe you’ve been part of communities where alcohol, weed, or other substances felt like the glue that held everything together.
Or maybe you’re a researcher, health professional, bartender, artist, or organizer with insight into how our culture teaches us to connect through consumption.

Craving Community isn’t just about sobriety—it’s about the ways we gather, cope, celebrate, and belong. We’re interviewing people from all walks of life for this project: sober folks, party people, scientists, musicians, harm reduction advocates, and anyone in between.

If you have a story or perspective to share—and you’re open to being on camera—we’d love to hear from you. Use the form below to reach out. No pressure, no expectations. Just a conversation to start.
